A native of Peru, Richard (Ricardo) Isla-Rodas received a Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering from Virginia Tech in 2005. He joined the USPTO in July 2005 as patent examiner in Class 324 examining applications related to the measuring, testing (or sensing) of electrical and nonelectrical properties by electrical means. He became a Primary Examiner in 2011 and served on Trainer Assignments at the Patent and Trademark Academy in 2013 and 2014. He became Supervisory Patent Examiner in 2014, managing and mentoring examiners in Class 320 which deals with methods or systems for controlled or regulated charging and/or discharging of voltaic cell(s),batteries, or capacitors. Ricardo is currently serving on a temporary assignment at the Dallas Regional Office as a Resource Supervisory Examiner, training patent examiners and participating in Outreach activities to engage and educate the public. In his free time, Ricardo enjoys photography, playing guitar, and spending time with his family. He lives in Burke, VA with his two year old son Marcelo, his one year old daughter, Isabel and his wife,  April.
